2026 Irish Life Dublin Marathon – Race Tips for Windy Weather
We look forward to welcoming you to the start line of the 2026 Irish Life Dublin Marathon on Sunday 25 October. Preparations are progressing as planned.
Plan how you will keep warm before the start and after finishing, and be prepared to adjust your effort for wind on exposed sections of the course. Any further advice will be shared through our official event channels.
Before the Start
- Keep warm. Bring an extra layer for the start area
- Attach your race number to the clothing you will race in so it remains visible when you remove that layer
- Keep gently moving where space allows and allow time for your usual warm-up.
- Check that clothing and accessories are secure in the wind.
- Follow instructions on where to leave unwanted clothing and keep the route clear for other runners.
During the Race
- Run to effort. Start at a controlled effort and adjust your pace for the wind and hills.
- Allow other runners space, particularly where gusts may affect balance or direction.
- Follow your practised hydration and fuelling strategy.
- Listen to event organisers, stewards and marshals throughout the day.
After Finishing
- Have warm, dry clothing available and change out of damp running kit promptly. Plan your meeting point and onward journey in advance so you can get somewhere warm after finishing.
Help is Close By
- If you feel unwell, speak to an event official, volunteer, steward or member of the medical team, or make your way to the nearest medical point. If you need to withdraw, inform the event team so your withdrawal can be recorded. See our race-day information for medical points, fuelling stations and other course facilities HERE.
- Keep an eye on official Irish Life Dublin Marathon channels for event updates.
